Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, born Henry Charles Albert David, is a member of the British royal family. He is the son of King Charles III and his first wife, Diana, Princess of Wales. Prince Harry is currently fifth in the line of succession.
Prince Harry was born in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London, on September 15, 1984, at 4:20 PM. Harry's education began at London's Jane Mynors' nursery school on January 15, 1987, and began at the pre-preparatory Wetherby School in September 1989.
On May 8, 2005, Harry entered the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and was known as Officer Cadet Wales.
On March 6, 2014, Harry launched the Invictus Games, a Paralympic sporting event for injured servicemen and women. The first games were played at the former Olympic Park's Cooper Box arena in London. Events included handball, modern pentathlon, and fencing.
In July 2016, Prince Harry began dating American actress Meghan Markle. The two met in London through mutual friends. In November 2017, Prince Harry's father, Prince Charles, announced the couple's engagement and their 2018 spring wedding, also stating that the couple would reside in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace. The couple were married on May 19, 2018, at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. When interviewed by Oprah several days following the ceremony, the couple announced they had privately exchanged vows three days prior to the public ceremony in the presence of the Archbishop of Canterbury, though it was not an officially recognized religious or legal marriage.
Prince Harry and Markle have two children together, Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor.
In January 2020, the couple decided to step back from their roles as senior working members of the royal family and now reside in Southern California. In doing so, the couple became financially independent of the Crown, giving up their portion of the Queen's Sovereign Grant. However, the grant only accounted for 5 percent of their annual income. The couple receive 95 percent of their annual income, roughly £2.3 million, from the Duchy of Cornwall. The Duchy is part of Prince Charles's private estate. Prince Harry and his brother received most of the £13 million left by their mother. They were also left millions of pounds by the Queen mother, his great-grandmother.
In addition to launching the Invictus Games, Prince Harry donates to several other organizations, including the HALO Trust and Walking With The Wounded. In 2017, The Duke of Sussex and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spearheaded the Heads Together mental health campaign.
