Phillip Allen Sharp

Phillip Allen Sharp, born on June 6, 1944, is an American geneticist, chemist, and biochemist known for his contributions in the field of molecular biology. Sharp was born in Falmouth, Kentucky, and is a citizen of the United States.

Sharp received his education at various institutions, including the University of Illinois System, University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, and Union College (Kentucky). As a mentor, he has guided doctoral students such as Andrew Fire and Constance Cepko.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Sharp is a co-founder of Biogen, a biotechnology company. He has been recognized for his work by receiving the 1993 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
