Philip II also held the title of jure uxoris King of England and Ireland through his marriage to Queen Mary I from 1554 until her death in 1558.

Philip II had several children, including Carlos, Prince of Asturias; Isabella Clara Eugenia; Infanta Catherine Michelle of Spain; Ferdinand, Prince of Asturias; Diego, Prince of Asturias; and Philip III of Spain.

Philip II was the founder of the Council of Italy and was also known by the nickname "Philip the Prudent".
