Nectar is a loyalty rewards program that allows shoppers to earn rewards when making purchases from participating retail vendors. It was first launched in 2002 with users earning rewards on a physical card. The company now offers an app that is available for use in the United Kingdom and was developed by Nectar360, a media company owned by Sainsbury's.
Users can download the Nectar app through the Google Play or App Store. There are more than 300 brands that are partnered with Nectar, including Sainsbury's, Argos, eBay, and Esso. Users can view special offers on the app before they start shopping. As consumers use the app, it learns what they like to buy and creates personalized offers from vendors. Each time a consumer makes a purchase, they can earn points that can later be redeemed for discounts from participating partners. For example, users can get a free coffee from Caffe Nero when they've collected 350 points.
The app also has a feature for users to track their activity to see from which vendor they have earned points. Consumers can earn and keep track of their points with a digital card that is stored in the app or with a physical card that is offered by Nectar.
