Dies at the age of 45 of a heart attack resulting from longterm drug and alcohol abuse.

Stars in Wild River.
1957
Raintree County is released, starring Clift and Elizabeth Taylor
1956
After leaving a part at Taylor’s house in Beverly Hills, Clift falls asleep at the wheel and crashes his car into a telephone pole. Taylor is the first on the scene and saves him from choking by pulling two loose teeth from his throat. Clift breaks every bone in his face. Though his face is reconstructed, he never looks the same again.

Meets Elizabeth Taylor when the studio forces her to accompany him to the premiere of The Heiress. The two become lifelong friends
1948
Makes his film debut in Red River with John Wayne.

Goes on vacation to Mexico with friend Lehman Engel. During the trip, Clift comes down with amoebic dysentery.
January 1935
The Broadway production of Fly Away Home opens.
