Among his many accomplishments, Nichols directed films such as "The Graduate", "Carnal Knowledge", "The Day of the Dolphin", "Working Girl", "The Birdcage", and "Charlie Wilson's War". He also directed the 2004 film "Closer" and the 1986 film "Heartburn".

In addition to his work on the big screen, Nichols also directed the play "Wit" and founded the organization Friends In Deed. Throughout his illustrious career, he received several awards, including the Primetime Emmy Award and the Academy Award for Best Director.

Nichols was married to Annabel Davis-Goff and had a relative in journalism, Rachel Nichols.
