Max Born (11 December 1882 – 5 January 1970) was a physicist, mathematician, and scientist who is known for his foundational work in the field of quantum mechanics. Born was born in Wrocław, which is now located in Poland. Throughout his career, he held citizenship in the German Reich, the United Kingdom, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.

Born was educated at several prestigious institutions, including the University of Göttingen, Heidelberg University, the University of Zurich, the University of Wrocław, and Gonville and Caius College at Cambridge. His doctoral advisor was Carl David Tolmé Runge.

Throughout his career, Max Born supervised many doctoral students, including J. Robert Oppenheimer, Maria Goeppert-Mayer, Friedrich Hund, Victor Weisskopf, Pascual Jordan, Carl Hermann, Bertha Swirles, Herbert S. Green, and Max Delbrück, among others. Born's contributions to the field of physics were widely recognized, and he received the 1954 Nobel Prize in Physics.
