Matthew Stanley "Matt" Quay (September 30, 1833 – May 28, 1904) was an American attorney, military officer, and Republican politician who represented Pennsylvania in the United States Senate for seventeen years, from 1887 until 1901 and 1901 until his death. Quay's control of the autocratic Pennsylvania Republican political machine made him one of the most powerful and influential politicians in the country. He was influential in the 1888 election of Benjamin Harrison as President of the United States and the 1900 election of Theodore Roosevelt as Vice President. He served as chairman of the Republican National Committee during Harrison's presidential administration.
