Martin Briley is a singer-songwriter from London.
Briley began recording music at the young age of ten. By age seventeen, he formed a band called Mandrake Paddle Steamer that recorded music at Abbey Road Studios. Soon after, Briley was signed to George Martin's record label, Associated Independent Recording (AIR), leading to him becoming a big part of the London studio scene. His work as an arranger, vocalist, and session guitarist made him a highly sought-after musician. Briley worked briefly with the BBC TV Orchestra, then as a bass guitarist in a British art-rock band called Greenslade, after which he moved from London to New York City.
Briley quickly found work upon moving to New York and began working as a touring and session musician for artists Ellen Foley, Ian Hunter, and Mick Ronson. Briley also signed as a solo artist to Mercury Records. He released his first solo album, Fear of the Unknown, in 1981. One Night With a Stranger was released in 1982, and Dangerous Moments in 1984.
Over the course of his career, Briley has written and recorded music with artists like Peter Wolf, Amy Powers, Johnny Mathis, Bonnie Tyler, Donna Summer, Rob Townsend, and Danny Wilde. He has composed music for movies, television shows, networks, and commercials.
