Manhattan [mænˈhætən] is the historic core of New York City and one of its five boros. In addition to Manhattan Island, the Borough includes several smaller islands.
The area of New York County, which includes Manhattan, is 59.47 km². The island of Manhattan, on the other hand, is 58.8 km² and has a population of 1.619 million (as of 2012). It is one of the smallest and most populous of the U.S. counties.
In the borough of Manhattan are the tallest skyscrapers, including the World Trade Center 1, the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the Woolworth Building, the Met Life Tower, 40 Wall StreeRockefeller Center.
