Lum.ai is a company offering natural language processing and machine reading technology solutions for research and development that is headquartered in Tucson, Arizona and was founded in 2018 by Kevin McLaughlin, Mihai Surdeanu, Marco Valenzuela, Gus Hahn-Powell, and Dane Bell. The company uses artificial intelligence to develop understanding for language used in a wide range of text such as social media and scientific publications.

The company was initially funded by DARPA through their Big Mechanism program for uncovering novel genetic pathways for cancer. The Bill & Melinda Gates foundation have used Lum.ai for their Healthy Birth, Growth and Development (HBGD) program for retrieving, assembling, and interpreting genetic information from thousands of scientific publications related to the health of children.

The company pivoted from serving the health and genetic industries to serve the agricultural industry. Their shift to serving the agricultural industry was to help address global food supply challenges through using the company's Influence Search technology.
