There was no revolution in exterior design, because the predecessor is already selling well. But inside the suv has changed dramatically. In addition, the model has a new filling.
The very first Lexus RX crossover debuted in 1998, it became a pioneer in the premium SUV segment. And the model of the now outgoing, fourth generation has been in service since 2015, and, for example, in the States this generation has become the most successful - the annual circulation of such a cross has never fallen below 100 thousand units. In total, for almost a quarter of a century, according to the premium brand, about 3.5 million crossovers of four generations have been sold worldwide. And here is the "fifth" RX.


As expected, the crossover moved to the GA-K platform, created within the framework of Toyota's TNGA architecture. The "fifth" Lexus RX has a multi-link at the back, the center of gravity is reduced by 15 mm. The body has become stronger, while the wings and hood are made of aluminum, making the new cross 90 kg lighter than the previous model. The length is the previous 4890 mm, the width has been increased by 25 mm to 1920 mm, the height, on the contrary, has been cut by 10 mm to 1695 mm. The wheelbase of the fifth generation crossover is 2850 mm, which is 60 mm more than the previous RX. The front track is now 15 mm wider, the rear track is 50 mm wider at once. The new SUV has 19- or 21-inch wheels.

In the fifth generation Lexus RX retained a recognizable silhouette and a "floating" roof. The headlights are new, but the LED strokes of the running lights were left. An insert painted in the color of the body appeared on the radiator grille, so that from afar it seems as if the family "spindle" was changed to a "trapeze". The taillights were made in the form of a single die.

Inside, the crossover has been completely transformed, the interior is decorated in a new Tazuna concept ("bridle" from Japanese), like the younger Lexus NX model and the Lexus RZ electric SUV. The main message of this style is the location of the main controls around the driver, in addition, this control should be intuitive. So, the RX received a multimedia system with a 14-inch touchscreen deployed to the pilot, but there is no touchpad on the central tunnel anymore. Also for the model there is a virtual "tidy", a projection display and a salon mirror with a screen on which the image from the rear-view camera is displayed.

The distance between the rows of seats has been increased by 10 mm, the backs of the rear sofa are divided in the proportion of 40:20:40. The internal length of the luggage compartment has become 50 mm longer. The trunk volume has not yet been disclosed, while Lexus announced that the loading height is now 30 mm less.

Of course, the model has a Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 security system in its arsenal, in particular, it includes modified adaptive cruise control (it detects the car in front faster) and a collision avoidance system (it now recognizes motorcyclists and other objects - for example, trees and poles). There is also a Driver Monitor system: a camera located above the steering wheel monitors the driver's condition, and if he does not respond to warnings, electronics can slow down or stop the suv altogether. Finally, like the NX and RZ, the new Lexus RX has e-latch electric locks (the possibility of emergency mechanical opening is preserved): the system will not allow you to open the door in case of danger – for example, if another car approaches the crossover.
The V6 engine has been retired, the Lexus RX now has exclusively four-cylinder engines. The crossover will be available in four versions, and only one of them is "traditional", the rest have hybrid installations.
The basic Lexus RX 350 is equipped with a 2.4 petrol turbo–four, which produces 279 hp and 430 Nm, this engine is combined with an eight-speed automatic, the drive is front or full. The all-wheel drive RX 350 will score the first "hundred" in 7.1 seconds.


The installation of the RX 350h hybrid includes "atmospheric" 2.5, an electric motor and an electromechanical variator. Such a crossover can have all-wheel drive E-Four, that is, a separate electric motor is installed on the rear axle. The combined output is 245 hp and 316 Nm, the car with all–wheel drive accelerates to 100 km/ h in 8 seconds.
Lexus RX 450h+ is a rechargeable hybrid (for the first time for the model), it has an E-Four system by default, and an 18.1 kWh lithium-ion battery is also included in the installation (a "simple" hybrid has a nickel-metal hydride battery). The PHEV version has more powerful electric motors, so the total return is also higher – 306 hp. In hybrid mode, such a cross can accelerate to "hundreds" in about 7 seconds. The RX 450h+ will travel approximately 65 km only on electric traction.
Well, the top hybrid crossover is named Lexus RX 500h F Sport Performance, it received a 2.4 turbo engine and a six-speed automatic with a clutch instead of a torque converter. This SUV has Direct4 all–wheel drive - an electric motor with a capacity of 109 hp is installed on the rear axle, and the total output of such a model is 371 hp and 550 Nm. The acceleration time to "hundreds" is about 6 seconds. In addition, the RX 500h F Sport Performance has a full-control chassis and six-piston brakes on the front axle. At the same time, charging from the mains for a "hot" hybrid is not provided.
The new Lexus RX will enter the market by the end of this year. The extended version of the "fifth" crossover will not be – the RX L should be replaced by a three-row Lexus TX.
