LastMile AI is a startup offering an artificial intelligence (AI) developer platform for engineering teams and machine learning (ML) practitioners. LastMile allows customers to build generative AI apps leveraging text and image-generating models from both open-source and proprietary providers. The platform enables developers to personalize models with their own data, incorporating them into new or existing apps, products, and services.
LastMile divides its product into three categories:
- Workbooks—a notebook-inspired environment to prototype and build apps with text, image, and audio AI models.
- Workflows—tasks can be streamlined and automated using generative AI technology; it can integrate with trusted data providers while creating task-based AI workflows to transform data.
- AIConfig (OSS)—a framework for building generative AI applications, which manages generative AI prompts, models, and model parameters as JSON-serializable configs that can be version controlled, evaluated, monitored, and opened in a local editor for rapid prototyping.
LastMile also offers AI templates for reusable development setups that can be shared. A paid version from $50 / month per seat (plus API usage after credit) provides workflows and additional collaboration and support features. LastMile also offers an Enterprise subscription priced based on the company's specific needs.
Headquartered in New York City, LastMile AI was founded in 2023 by Sarmad Qadri (CEO), Suyog Sonwalkar (CTO), and Andrew Hoh (CPO). The founders previously worked in the engineering and product team at Meta AI, building the core development platform for machine learning. While at Meta AI, they dealt with the "last mile" challenges of model management, including ML monitoring and explainability, concept drift, data lineage, and much more. They decided to start LastMile AI, as they felt the future of AI extends beyond ML practitioners to software engineers. LastMile AI aims to make AI accessible and production-ready for software engineers to drive the last-mile adoption of the technology across every industry.
On September 14, 2023, the company announced $10 million in seed funding led by Gradient, Google’s AI-focused venture fund, with participation from Jerry Yang, Guillermo Rauch, Exceptional Capital, FirstHand Alliance, 10x Founders, and others.
