Joe Lonsdale is an American entrepreneur and venture capital investor. He is the founder of 8VC, a technology investment firm, and co-founder Palantir Technologies, Addepar, and OpenGov. Lonsdale also contributed early investing to the e-commerce platform Wish.
Lonsdale began his career as an intern at PayPal, where he met with future business partner Peter Thiel. Following graduation from Stanford, Lonsdale worked as an executive of Clarium Capital, a macro hedge fund operated by Thiel. Alongside Thiel, Alex Karp, Stephen Cohen, and Nathan Gettings, he co-founded and served as co-head of products at the data analytics company Palantir Technologies in 2004.
Lonsdale co-founded Addepar, a financial mangement and data analytics service for investment advisors, with Jason Mirra in 2009. He currently serves as executive chairman for Addepar.
Lonsdale has invested in a number of technology companies, both personally and through a number of venture capital firms, including Anduin Ventures, Formation 8, and 8VC. Notable companies invested in include Wish, Oculus, Quardant Health, Practice Fusion, Anduril, Asana, and The Boring Company.
