Jesse Douglas (July 3, 1897 - September 7, 1965) was an American mathematician known for his work in the field of differential geometry, particularly on Plateau's problem and the Petr–Douglas–Neumann theorem. Douglas was born in New York City and held citizenship in the United States. His journey in education began at the City College of New York and later, he pursued further studies at Columbia University. Throughout his academic career, Douglas received guidance from his doctoral advisor, Edward Kasner.
In recognition of his contributions to the field of mathematics, Douglas was awarded the Fields Medal in 1936, which is widely considered one of the highest distinctions in the field of mathematics. Unfortunately, Douglas passed away in his place of birth, New York City, on September 7, 1965.
