Ilya Frank (born 10 October 1908 in Saint Petersburg and died 22 June 1990 in Moscow) was a Soviet physicist who held citizenship in the Soviet Union. He was educated at Moscow State University, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Voronezh State University. Frank was known for his work in the field of physics, particularly in Čerenkov radiation, Transition radiation, and the Frank-Tamm formula.
Frank was born to Michael Ludwigovich Frank and Elizabeth Mikhailovna Frank. He later studied under the guidance of his doctoral advisor, Sergey Ivanovich Vavilov.
Throughout his career, Ilya Frank received several awards, including the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, Order of Lenin, Order of Honor, Hero of Socialist Labor, Medal "For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945", Stalin Prize, and the USSR State Prize.
Frank was associated with Alexei Yegorovich Cherenkov in the field of patents, who was born on 15 July 1904, held citizenship in the Russian Empire, and died on 6 January 1990. Both scientists were highly regarded for their contributions to physics and left their mark in the scientific community.
