This breed was bred by Canadian breeders, but quickly became popular in Russia. Birds adapt well to the conditions of the Russian climate, but it is not worth cultivating in regions with severe frosts. Turkey meat has excellent taste qualities – the dietary product is very tender and juicy.
Canadian turkeys are dominated by white plumage, broad chest and dense body structure. This breed especially quickly gains weight in the summer.
If you feed the birds properly and observe the conditions of their maintenance, after two months of fattening, you can send turkeys to slaughter. They gain enough weight. It is believed that the Canadian bird is the largest turkey in the world.
The greatest weight of a bird can reach 30 kg, which is not possible for other breeds. If we evaluate the Canadian turkey from the point of view of making a profit, this breed is considered the best option. After all, it is only in the summer that the bird eats a lot of kilograms, so you do not need to spend money on warming poultry houses and feeding in other periods. This attracts many breeders, if we take into account how much 1 kg of turkey meat costs and its demand on the market.
Animal Features:
- Have a high egg production. During the year, the female can bring up to 120 eggs. There are difficulties with offspring, since females and males have a large difference in weight. So, with the weight of males at 30 kg, females are half as small. Because of this, it is often necessary to use artificial insemination.
- Birds need warm keeping. Growing in the summer does not present any difficulties. But if you are engaged in breeding birds as a profit, then you can not do without an insulated poultry house, in which the temperature should be at least 22 degrees.
- Birds of this breed are demanding of nutrition. Their diet should be varied, rich in vitamins and nutrients. Eggs and cottage cheese are necessarily introduced into the menu.
If all these rules are followed, it will be possible to get a bird with a large weight and good quality of meat at the exit.
