Herman Hollerith was a computer scientist, businessperson, engineer, statistician, and mathematician born on February 29, 1860, in Buffalo, New York. He studied at the City College of New York and the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, later obtaining his citizenship from the University of Colorado Boulder.
Hollerith was the founder of the Computing-Tabulating-Recording Company, which ultimately became the International Business Machines Corporation or IBM. He passed away on November 17, 1929, in Washington, D.C.. In 1990, Hollerith was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame for his contributions to the field of computing.
