Grace Hopper (December 9, 1906 - January 1, 1992), also known as Grace Murray Hopper , was a mathematician, computer scientist, and programmer from the United States. She was born in New York City and educated at Vassar College, Yale University, and Wardlaw-Hartridge School. Her doctoral advisor was Øystein Ore.
During her career, one of Grace Hopper's notable works was FLOW-MATIC, an early programming language. She also pursued a career in physics and contributed to the field as a physicist. Hopper was often affectionately referred to as "Amazing Grace" due to her accomplishments and contributions to the field.
Grace Hopper received numerous awards for her work, including the Legion of Merit (LOM), Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She ultimately passed away on January 1, 1992 in Arlington County, Virginia.
