Gerald Edelman

Gerald Edelman was an accomplished biologist, neuroscientist, chemist, and physicist . He was born on July 1, 1929, in Queens, New York , and held citizenship in the United States . Edelman received his education at Ursinus College and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania . He was a doctoral student of Frederick Sanger , mentor to Olaf Sporns , and was also known as Gerald Maurice Edelman .

Edelman's notable achievements include being awarded the 1972 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine . He spent his professional career in the United States and, after a fulfilling life, died on May 17, 2014, in La Jolla, California .
