Frank Capra

Frank Capra was born Francesco Rosario Capra on May 18, 1897, in Bisacquino and held citizenships in both the Kingdom of Italy and the United States . He was educated at Manual Arts High School and the California Institute of Technology . Capra had a career as a film director , screenwriter , and film producer , working in genres such as propaganda films and screwball comedy films .

He directed numerous films including Mr. Smith Goes to Washington , The Strong Man , and It's a Wonderful Life . Capra was a founder of Liberty Films and was a member of the board of directors of It's a Wonderful Life . He was a recipient of multiple awards including the Member of the Order of the British Empire , Distinguished Alumni Award , Golden Globe Awards , and the Academy Award for Best Director .

Frank Capra passed away on September 3, 1991, in La Quinta, California . He had a son named Frank Capra Jr. .
