Brazilian swimmer, 2018 World champion, two-time Pan American Games champion (2019), two-time South American Games champion (2018), bronze medalist at the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 200 m freestyle swimming.

At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Slate broke the South American record in the men's 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1: 45.05, taking 2nd place in the semifinals. After qualifying, taking the last place in the semifinals, he again surpassed himself in the final, again breaking his South American record by a large margin with a time of 1: 44.66, receiving a bronze medal, repeating the feat of Gustavo Borges, the last Brazilian to win an Olympic medal in this form. Schaeffer lowered the South American record by almost 1 second at the Olympics to win a medal.
