Emil Fischer

Emil Fischer was a German chemist and biochemist born on October 9, 1852, in Euskirchen. He was educated at the University of Bonn and the University of Strasbourg. Fischer was known for his study of sugars and purines. He passed away on July 15, 1919, in Berlin.

Fischer's notable accomplishments include receiving the 1902 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and the Davy Medal. As a distinguished academic, he advised several doctoral students who went on to make their own contributions to chemistry and biochemistry. Among his students were Otto Heinrich Warburg, Hans Fischer, Otto Diels, Hans von Euler-Chelpin, Carl Harries, and Max Bergmann. Emil Fischer's own doctoral advisor was Adolf von Baeyer.
