Edwin Arnold was the second of six children in the family of a municipal councillor. He was educated at the Royal School of Rochester. Then he studied at King's College London and at University College, Oxford University.
During his university years, he received the Newdigate Prize in Poetry. After graduation, he teaches at King Edward's School in Birmingham.
