Edward Victor Appleton

Edward Victor Appleton was born on September 6, 1892, in Bradford, United Kingdom. He was a physicist, astronomer, and professor, known for his work in ionospheric physics, the Appleton layer, and the Appleton-Hartree equation. Appleton was educated at the University of Edinburgh, St John's College, Cambridge, and the University of Cambridge. He was awarded the 1947 Nobel Prize in Physics, and his academic discipline was in physics.

Appleton was a doctoral student of Ernest Rutherford and later advised two doctoral students, Charles Oatley and J. A. Ratcliffe. Edward Victor Appleton passed away on April 21, 1965, in Edinburgh, United Kingdom.
