Gameplay.
Days Gone is a third-person action adventure set in a post-apocalyptic open world. The player controls the biker Deacon St. John, who has become a tramp and a bounty hunter who prefers life on the road to wild camps. The game takes place two years after the pandemic killed almost all of humanity and turned millions of others into "freaks— - brainless, zombie-like creatures that evolve rapidly. One of the types of freaks is stoeviki, which hide in their nests during the day, but at night they often gather together and wander around the nests in search of food and water. Players can use their herd behavior to their advantage by luring them to other enemies and killing them. The player can attract the attention of a large horde of freaks from hundreds of creatures, which is why he must stay away from such gatherings, which can move along roads or stay near mass graves. There are bottlenecks in areas near hordes of freaks, such as gaps between buildings and ledges on roofs where players can drive freaks. Deacon can use traps and explosives to kill individual freaks. An example of enemies are teenagers and children infected with the virus, jackals (Eng. Newts), who are less aggressive and will attack only in order to protect their territory or sensing the weak health of the Deacon. The game also has infected animals and hostile people.
The game takes place in an open world in the Pacific Northwest. Players are free to explore the world on foot or by motorcycle. Traveling long distances will lead to fuel consumption, and the transport device may fail with excessive damage. Players must regularly refuel the iron horse at gas stations and camps, as well as repair it with the collected scrap. The Deacon must establish a trusting relationship with the settlement camps and earn "camp credits" by completing missions, selling rewards and products collected in the wild. As the confidence level increases, players can buy new weapons, supplies, and motorcycle parts that can be used to increase its speed, strength, and maneuverability. The appearance of the motorcycle can also be customized.
