DeVito began his career in the entertainment industry in 1969 and was educated at the Oratory Preparatory School and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts . DeVito is a citizen of the United States .

He is the director of films such as Matilda (1996) , Hoffa , The Ratings Game , Throw Momma from the Train , Death to Smoochy , Duplex , and Man on the Moon . Danny DeVito founded a production company called Jersey Films in 1991 . Some of the notable works produced by Jersey Films include Pulp Fiction , Get Shorty , Erin Brockovich , Gattaca , Garden State , and Reno 911! . DeVito has been involved in various genres such as comedy , drama , crime film , fantasy film , superhero film , romantic comedy film , and adventure film .

DeVito has received numerous awards throughout his career, including the American Comedy Awards , Primetime Emmy Award , Golden Globe Awards , Golden Raspberry Awards , MTV Movie Awards , Saturn Award , TV Land Award , and Critics' Choice Movie Awards .
