Coalition (from lat. coalitio - union) - consent, consent, conspiracy, circle, voluntary association of several groups of someone (for example: states, organizations, political parties, individuals) to achieve a specific goal in something.
Unlike some other types of associations, each of the members of the coalition retains independence in matters not related to the goal of the coalition. After reaching the goal, the coalition may disintegrate.
Coalitions of States - An example of a coalition of states is military coalitions. Such coalitions arise when there is a strong common enemy. The concept of a military-political bloc has much in common with a coalition, but these concepts do not coincide. For example, the Warsaw Pact Organization, like the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), is not a coalition, since, firstly, its members closely cooperated in very wide areas, and secondly, its members were in fact completely subordinate to the USSR and the USA, and an attempt exit from them was and is being suppressed up to intervention.
The most famous coalitions of states:
- Hitler's Coalition (Axis)
- Anti-Hitler coalition
- Coalitions against Republican and Napoleonic France
Coalitions of organizations - Other organizations can also join coalitions. Examples of such coalitions:
- The anti-tobacco advocacy coalition is an association of two dozen Russian organizations in order to achieve Russia's accession to the Framework Convention.
- The Coalition of Academic Resources and Scientific Publications is an organization of library communities that advocates for the expansion of free access to knowledge.
- The Christian Coalition of America is an association of a number of organizations of Christian fundamentalists, neo-evangelists and charismatics (neo-Pentecostals) in the United States.
Coalitions of individuals - Coalitions as associations of individuals (people) with common interests to achieve a specific economic goal, such as: producers, merchants, employers, workers (Cartels, Workers' Unions, Syndicates, Strikes).
