Christian IV of Denmark was born on April 12, 1577, at Frederiksborg Castle . He was the child of Frederick I of Denmark and Duchess Sophia Frederica of Mecklenburg-Schwerin . Christian IV held Danish nationality and had the occupation of a politician and duke .
During his reign, Christian IV was known as the King of Denmark and Norway as well as the Duke of Holstein and Schleswig from 1588 until his death in 1648 . He founded the Danish East India Company in 1616 .
He was the father of numerous children, including Christian, Prince-Elect of Denmark, Frederick III of Denmark, Valdemar Christian of Schleswig-Holstein, Sophie Elisabeth of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Wiesenburg, Ulrik of Denmark (1611–1633), Leonora Christina Ulfeldt, Elisabeth of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg, Hedwig of Holstein, Hans Ulrik Gyldenløve, Christian Ulrik Gyldenløve, Christiane Sehested, and Ulrik Christian Gyldenløve (general).
Christian IV also had several other children from various relationships, including Hedevig Ulfeldt, Sophie Elisabeth Pentz, Elisabeth Augusta Lindenov, and Dorothea Elisabeth Christiansdatter.
He was the owner of Rosenborg Castle and Frederiksborg Castle.
Christian IV of Denmark died on February 28, 1648, in Copenhagen .
