Benjamin Constant (25 October 1767 – 8 December 1830) was a philosopher, politician, writer, and scientist. Born in Lausanne, Constant spent a portion of his life studying at the University of Edinburgh. He held citizenship in both Switzerland and France.
Constant's writing encompassed a variety of genres, including novels. His notable work, Adolphe, is an example of his literary contributions. He spent his final years in Paris, where he eventually passed away.
