Belvedere Museum, formerly called Austrian Gallery, is comprised of two palaces—the Lower and Upper Belvedere. They are located in the one-time summer residential palace of Eugene of Savoy. There is a third site called the Belvedere 21, which is a short distance away.
The museum's art collection includes works that range from the Middle Ages to the present day. Highlights include a large collection of paintings by Gustav Klimt, including art from the periods of Austrian Baroque, Viennese Biedermeier, Vienna around 1900, and French Impressionism. Belvedere Museum's main tasks include the exhibition, research, collection, communication, and preservation of its art.
In 2022, Belvedere Museum partnered with NFT investment fund artèQ and fractionalized a high-resolution digital version of Gustav Klimt's “The Kiss” into 10,000 NFTs, each of the 100 x 100 sized grid cost about €1,850. The NFT's official drop was Valentine’s Day. After that, holders of the fractions are able to register as piece owners or affix a love dedication to their segments. The full digital painting can be seen on thekiss.art.
