Andrew Yao (born December 24, 1946) is a computer scientist from China. He was born in Shanghai and is currently located in China. Throughout his career, Yao has made significant contributions to the field of computer science, including the development of Yao's principle.
Yao obtained his education at several prestigious institutions such as National Taiwan University, Harvard University, and the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. He had Chung Laung Liu as his doctoral advisor.
Over the years, Yao has supervised various doctoral students like Oren Patashnik, Robert Drysdale, Kenneth L. Clarkson, and Joan Feigenbaum.
In recognition of his work, Andrew Yao was awarded the 2000 Turing Award, a prestigious honor in the field of computer science.
