Alvan Adams , born on July 19, 1954 , is a former basketball player from the United States . He was born in Lawrence, Kansas and is also known by the nicknames "Double A" and "The Oklahoma Kid" . He attended Putnam City High School and later, the University of Oklahoma .
Throughout his career, Adams received numerous awards and honors, including the NBA Rookie of the Year in 1976 , NBA All-Star in 1976 , and NBA All-Rookie First Team in 1976 . Additionally, his No. 33 was retired by the Phoenix Suns and honored by the University of Oklahoma .
As an athlete in college, Adams earned the Big Eight Player of the Year in 1975 and was on the First-team All-Big Eight for three years from 1973 to 1975 . He was also recognized as a Third-team All-American by the NABC in 1975 as well as a Second-team Parade All-American in 1972 .
