Alexander Anderson

is one of the leading characters in several of Kota Hirano's manga, most notably Hellsing. The chief inquisitor-hunter of evil spirits of the Thirteenth Department of the Vatican "Iscariot".

Personality

Alexander Anderson has a very ambiguous character in both the manga and the Hellsing OVA.

On the one hand, in the first issues, Anderson was an absolutely insane, eccentric psychopath who enjoyed the destruction of not only evil spirits, but also people (As it was in the anime).

However, later, although he showed sadistic inclinations, they contrasted strongly with more frequent prudence and even sullenness.

The paladin of the Vatican came to the faith at a mature age, having gone through the depths of human vices, seducing other people as well. In many ways, Anderson's conversion to religion was influenced by his beloved Chris, who nevertheless had her own independent opinion on faith. This all explains the contradictory attitude of Alexander to the ideals not of religion, but directly of the church, to which he himself belongs.

Appearance

Anderson is tall and blond, even taller than Alucard. In the first releases, he has sharp facial features, and later coarse ones: a large nose, a rounded face. In any case, there is a scar on the Inquisitor's face, on the left side. The cheeks are always covered with light bristles. From the eternal canon, not violated by anyone, the priest always has green eyes.

The hair, in the manga, was probably intended to be gray, but Hirano himself later changed it to blond. They themselves appear in the form of a hedgehog.

In the first manga ("Angel Dust", "Crossfire"), where Alexander appears, while still young, his hair is a buzzard, only his hair is black.

In whatever work Anderson appears, his wardrobe always remains unchanged. Over a black or white cassock, the inquisitor wears a gray cloak. He wears white or black pants, black shoes, round glasses on his nose, and a Catholic cross sparkles on his chest.

In Manga and OVA

First appears in the Angel Dust manga. There he appears as a drug dealer pretending to be a priest. During the course of the manga, he renounces his profession and service to the Millennium Organization (Because they are the ones who control the drug trade). Anderson contacts the nun Christina and is pursued by his former partner, Ned. There he meets Coyote and Pip's Grandfather Bernadotte.

Based on references and flashbacks in the Hellsing manga, Alexander Anderson was the tutor for Enrico Maxwell , Heinkel Wolf, and Yumiko Takagi . Although Anderson tried to raise children to be God-obedient, raising them on contradictory truths did not work out well for all three: Maxwell grew up a psychopath who hates the world, mixing the fanatical teachings of the Inquisition and Enrico's own experience, who was no longer small upon arrival to the shelter; Yumiko has apparently always been distinguished by madness, but Anderson's upbringing gave each personality its own extreme of teaching - Yumiko is kindness and mercy, and Yumie is ruthlessness and the desire to cleanse the world; Heinkel is the only one who retains approximately the position of Alexander.

Alexander Anderson next appears in several issues of the Crossfire manga. There he appears as a friend of Renaldo's father and a mentor to Maxwell, Heinkel, and Yumiko. True, in this manga, Alexander Anderson is a member of the Third Section of "Joanna".

Anderson's first appearance in the OVA is in the first episode. Anderson, as in the manga, listens to the information reported by Renaldo about the Protestants in Ireland and unequivocally hints that Alexander will deal with them.

The Iscariot hunter arrives at their destination before the Hellsing hunters and kills the chipped vampire, leaving Victoria Seras and Alucard to be ghouls.

Victoria is already beginning to enter a state of "bloodlust", but Anderson interrupts her, throwing

consecrated swords. Although Victoria, like a draculina, does not die, she is no longer able to resist the paladin. Alexander himself is more interested in a vampire, who in his eyes is even more evil than a heretic. Realizing that his opponents are real vampires, he uses consecrated psalms to create a blockage of vampiric magic. After a brief fight, Alucard shoots the priest in the forehead.

Dracula goes to help his student get up and regain strength, but Anderson rises from behind him. Then it becomes known that he is a regenerate - a "super soldier" of the Vatican. The Inquisitor and the Nosferatu engage in another battle, at the end of which Alexander pins Alucard to the wall and cuts off his head. In battle ecstasy, he does not notice that Victoria dragged the head of the master and disappeared into the corridors of the building.

While praying, he searches for a young Hellsing employee, but she is saved by Integra's arrival at the building. This distracts the Inquisitor, and after killing Lady Hellsing's bodyguards, he threatens her as well. Integra, who saved Seras, is saved by Alucard. The revival of Dracula puts the priest in a stupor and he hides.

Alexander's next appearance takes place in London. He arrives with Maxwell and Renaldo at the museum of military equipment, but is waiting at the entrance to the main hall. Enrico put him there as a trump card, in case he had to confront Alucard.

In the end, Maxwell did not fail and he had to call on Anderson, but the latter did not come to intimidate, but to take revenge on the vampire for the past defeat. Fortunately, Victoria arrives , who, along with Walter, prepared a tour of the veterans of the museum so that Iscariot and Hellsing do not clash in a duel again. For both Alucard and Anderson, the confrontation has "lost its magic" for now, and they part ways.

Following a truce between the Vatican and Britain, Alexander takes a covert flight following Protestant operatives to monitor their activities in Brazil. After Alucard and Pip arrange a pogrom in Rio de Janeiro, Alexander comes to their aid and helps them leave the country (although he could not resist before the duel with Alucard). "Hellsing" leave the country, and Anderson remains to exterminate the Nazis in Brazil.

Maxwell contacts his most trusted person, after finally establishing an alliance with the Protestants, and informs him to be ready for the fact that Hellsing will need to be betrayed.

Alexander is sent to London, where he awaits the Millennium attack. When the main force of the Vatican enters the city to wage war against the vampires and heretics, the paladin of the church, along with his task force, sets about his task. He follows Integra in a besieged city and saves her from fascist vampires.

Looking at the actions of Maxwell and the knights entrusted to him in London, he apparently loses faith in his boss, intoxicated with power, and leaves Lady Hellsing under the protection of Victoria , essentially giving freedom to the head of the enemies and life to the vampire. Anderson decides it's more important to "save" his pupil.

When Enrico Maxwell falls from a helicopter protected by tiktit glass, he is safe. But Anderson breaks the student's defenses, allowing Alucard 's slave souls to destroy Maxwell. Anderson believes that he saved the soul of his named son, absorbed in his own ambitions and sadism, not allowing him to do more sins.

After he prays for his student, Anderson goes to fight Alucard. Initially, Anderson fights alone, but his pupils come to his aid. Although the paladin orders them to leave to prevent their souls from being consumed by the nosferatu, they stay behind to help their mentor.

When almost all the students die, and Alexander himself loses the ability to fight with both hands, he injects Elena's stake into his heart. The Inquisitor turns into a humanoid creature similar to thorns. Alucard hoped that in such a battle he would be able to die with dignity at the hands of a man, but not accepting the philosophy of Montana , he tells Anderson, whom he had previously wanted to warn against turning into a monster: "Only a man can kill a monster ..."

Before his death, Anderson's depleted remains fall to the ground, which he managed to grow back, previously implanted with regeneration, but due to the lack of a heart, the body could not resume blood circulation to restore the rest (most likely, the Vatican's regeneration technology is based on changing blood molecules). Before his death, Anderson recalls the best period of his life, when he was raising children, and Alucard , broken by the death of his enemy, he said that they become monsters in order to lose weaknesses.

In the anime series

Alexander Andersen is one of the leading characters in several of Kota Hirano's manga, especially Hellsing. The chief inquisitor-hunter of evil spirits of the Thirteenth Department of the Vatican "Iscariot".

Personality

Outwardly, it differs little from the prototype in the manga, except that the facial features are sharper and the face has an oblong shape.

Andersen's eyes are green and do not lose their madness in any frame. From a scarred face, a forced smile almost never leaves.

In the series, under a gray cloak, he has not a black, but a white cassock, and the cloak itself is lighter.

Appearance

He appears in the third episode of the anime series. In the beginning, we are shown some moments with the arrival of the priest in London, letting us know that he will play an important role. In parallel, we are shown the prehistory of Enrico Stivaletti - a vampire.

When the Hellsing staff engage the vampire and attack in a second wave, Andersen appears and kills Gareth Henders and the other rank and file. He throws his blade at Seras as well , but she survives as she is a vampire. The priest does not notice that Victoria is alive and is preparing to destroy the main target - the vampire Stivletty.

Alucard appears and destroys the vampire himself, but Andersen does not despair and enters into battle with the legendary dog "Hellsing". The fight does not last long and the auxiliarius takes a bullet in the forehead. But he quickly gets up, attacking the nosferatu who has lost his vigilance. Anderson turns out to be a regenerate, for which we despise Alucard. Then the battle goes to the plus for Andersen, but Integra appears and calls on Andersen to fulfill the non-aggression agreement between Iscariot and Hellsing, and the priest leaves.

The next time, Andersen arrives in London along with Father Renaldo and Bishop Enrico Maxwell . But he doesn't go to the museum with the Bishop, he goes to the subway where the Hellsing organization is purging vampires. While moving through the wagons of Victoria and other employees, they stumble upon an already cleared wagon, it was laid with the consecrated psalms already familiar to Seras , to weaken the vampires.

Alexander Andersen kills a lot of Hellsing hunters, but Alucard arrives, which pleases the priest, who is eager for revenge. As the battle progresses on the train, Alucard again underestimates Andersen and loses his head. As the Inquisitor pursues Victoria, Dracula rises up and strips the Inquisitor of his arms.

The paladin recalls a fragment from his past, where he is dressed in a military uniform and defeats the enemy, wielding only his teeth (Most likely, the series planned to reveal Andersen's past in Millennium) and grabs his sword in his mouth and runs at the enemy, naturally losing. Then Andersen promises that he will destroy the vampire next time and hides in a whirlwind of pages from the Bible.

The last time in the series, we see Alexander watching the fight between Alucard and Incognito in the Tower of London.

In general, like many other characters, Andersen remained unrevealed to the desired extent by the series, since he was not continued, but he received more time than his colleague Maxwell.
