Nunatak Biotech was founded in 2023 by a multidisciplinary team led by Julia Mensa (CEO) and María Martha Martorell (COO), based in Buenos Aires. Emerging from the innovation ecosystem of the University of Buenos Aires, the company is dedicated to developing bioinputs based on extremophile microorganisms -collected in places such as Antarctica- to improve the resilience and health of degraded agricultural soils.

The most recent round of investment took place in June 2025, when Nunatak was selected as one of five Spanish-speaking startups to participate in Eatable Adventures' Raíces program, receiving US$107,000 as part of a joint initiative with other agrifoodtech startups.

Nunatak intends to invest in strengthening its bioremediation technology platform, accelerate field trials in regions affected by degradation or salinity, and deepen plant-microbe integration with a focus on crops such as wheat and barley. These uses are based on its model of microbes designed to restore distressed agricultural soils.

The support of Eatable Adventures, through the Raíces program, is relevant because it combines seed capital with technical mentoring and access to international networks. This support is important both to validate their technologies outside Argentina and to accompany their scalability in a market that demands regenerative solutions. The program also offers access to future funding, up to €1 M, which opens up the possibility of later stages of financing for Nunatak.

Nunatak's approach is based on a biotechnology platform that maps optimal associations between plants and microorganisms in extreme environments, utilizing environmental, soil, and metagenomic data. It applies these models in seed treatments or plant bioinputs that enhance germination, resistance to water stress or salinity, and, in turn, promise to reduce dependence on conventional chemical fertilizers.

BeeTechnology is a Chilean startup founded in 2016 that develops biotechnological solutions based on antimicrobial peptides, with applications in both animal health and food preservation. Its focus is on replacing antibiotics and chemical sanitizers in agri-food processes through bioactive ingredients derived from safe microorganisms. In June 2025, the company was one of the four startups selected by the Raíces program, promoted by the Spanish firm Eatable Adventures, and received an investment of US$107,000 to accelerate its growth and strengthen its presence in the Latin American and European agri-food market.

The financing will enable BeeTechnology to expand its production capacity, optimize its pilot plant, and invest in equipment to facilitate larger-scale operations. Eatable Adventures' participation as an investor represents an important strategic endorsement. Through the Roots program, the accelerator not only provides capital but also specialized mentoring, connections with agri-food industry networks, and access to possible future co-investment rounds. The objective of the program is to promote agri-food startups with global impact potential, especially in markets such as Latin America and Europe. For BeeTechnology, this link reinforces its positioning in the foodtech ecosystem and allows it to project itself beyond the local Chilean market.

Its main tool is a cocktail of antimicrobial peptides obtained through fermentation processes, which makes it possible to attack pathogens without leaving chemical residues. This solution can be integrated both in the livestock chain and in the post-harvest treatment of fresh foods. The company is committed to a B2B model, offering its functional ingredients to food processors, distributors, or agro-industrial producers seeking natural alternatives to ensure the safety and shelf life of their products.
