Work on the project began in 2013. In the same year, the rights to it were sold[5]. Initially, the film was created with the participation of actors Will Ferrell and Jack Black. In March 2015, Rob McKitrick was hired to write the script.[6]
By March 2016, Ferrell and Black were no longer tied to the production campaign, and Jeff Tomsik was officially announced as the director of the film. In the same month, Ed Helms and Tracy Morgan joined the cast.[7] In April 2017, Jeremy Renner and Hannibal Beress joined the line—up[8]; in May — Jake Johnson and Annabelle Wallis; in June - Jon Hamm, Isla Fisher and Rashida Jones[9][10]. Filming began on June 23, 2017 in Atlanta (USA)[11][12] and plans were announced to attract additional actors to the filming[13].
