Manuel Peter Neuer (German: Manuel Peter Neuer, German pronunciation: [mamaːnueːl ˈnɔʏ.ɐ]; genus. March 27, 1986, Gelsenkirchen, Germany) is a German football player, goalkeeper and captain of Bayern Munich, as well as the German national team. He is considered one of the best goalkeepers of all time[4][5][6]. He is known for his style of play, which includes the active participation of the goalkeeper in the team's game[7].
Neuer started his career at the German club Schalke 04, he passed through the youth academy of this team and it was in its composition that he made his debut in professional football. Shortly after his debut, Manuel became the main goalkeeper of Schalke, and later won the German Cup with this team. In 2011, he moved to another German club, Bayern Munich. In its composition, Neuer won many trophies both in Germany and abroad, together with his club, in particular, he won the Treble twice. Throughout his career, Manuel also won individual awards: he was recognized five times as the best goalkeeper in Europe by UEFA and the best goalkeeper in the world by the IFFIIS. In 2014, Neuer took third place in the voting for the Golden Ball award. In 2021, he was recognized as the best goalkeeper of the past decade by the IFFIIS[8].
Neuer started playing in the German national team from an early age, in the national under-21 team he became the European champion among youth teams. Since 2009, he began to play in the main German national team. In its composition, he went to two European championships: in 2012 and 2016, in both cases, Manuel became the bronze medalist of the tournament. He also took part in three World Championships (2010, 2014 and 2018). The 2014 World Cup was victorious for the German national team, and Neuer was recognized as the best goalkeeper of that tournament and received the Golden Glove.
