Walther Bothe

Walther Bothe (born January 8, 1891 , in Oranienburg ) was a German physicist, chemist, and mathematician . He was educated at Humboldt University of Berlin and the University of Giessen . His doctoral advisor was the renowned physicist Max Planck .

Bothe is known for his work on the coincidence circuit, a vital instrument in nuclear and particle physics laboratories . His work was in the academic discipline of physics .

In 1954, Bothe was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics . He held German citizenship and spent most of his life in Germany . Bothe passed away on February 8, 1957, in Heidelberg .
