He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, studying painting with Wojciech Stattler and sculpture with Henryk Kossowski. In 1856-1858 he studied in Vienna. Participated in the January Uprising. From 1876 he worked as a lecturer at the Krakow Academy of Arts (then the School of Fine Arts), from 1877 - its professor. He was a university professor until he lost his sight in 1887. Participated in the repair of the Cloth Rows, performed sculptural work in the avant-garde building from the side of the street. Sienna. He sculpted in plaster, terracotta and Carrara marble, made statues, busts and medallions.

In the 90s, due to loss of vision, he stopped his creative activity, the work he had begun was completed by Michal Korpal, who also took over the sculpture workshop of Valery Gadomsky.

He was buried at the Rakowice Cemetery in Krakow.
