Valeriy Nikolayevich Brumel was born on April 14, 1942, in Siberia. He held Russian and Soviet Union citizenships. Brumel was a Soviet high jumper known for winning multiple awards in his athletic career. His achievements included Olympic Games Gold Medal in 1964 Tokyo High jump and Silver Medal in 1960 Rome High jump, European Championships Gold Medal in 1962 Belgrade High jump, and Universiade Gold Medals in 1961 Sofia High jump and 1963 Porto Alegre High jump. Valeriy Brumel was also designated as Merited Master of Sports of the USSR.
Valeriy had two siblings, Oleg and Igor. Throughout his life, Brumel had three partners: Marina, Yelena Petushkova, and Svetlana Belousova. He had two children, Vlada Petushkova and Viktor.
Valeriy Brumel passed away in Moscow on January 26, 2003.
