Teeth are hard, bone-like tissues fixed in depressions in the human jaw. In total, a person's teeth change once in a lifetime.

The teeth meet from a visible part, called the crown, and a root located in the jaw tissues.

As a rule, it is longer than the crowns, which provides a reliable fastening of the tooth. Depending on the location of the teeth, they have from one to three roots. Thus, the teeth located in the front of the jaw are located on one root, closer to the back - two or three.

The main element of the tooth structure is dentin, which is a calcified tissue. It is a solid substance containing living cells.

Dentin is a sensitive tissue, sensitive to chemical and thermal effects.

The tooth is covered with enamel, which is an even harder and more insensitive protective tissue.

The root of the tooth is covered with a substance called cementum, which allows it to be held in place.

The middle of the tooth is filled with pulp - a soft and supersensitive tissue. The pulp stretches from the crown to the root and allows the tooth to be nourished through the smallest blood vessels. The system of attachment of teeth to the jawbone is quite complex. To the jaw bone, the tooth is attached with the help of the root.

The part of the human jaw that holds the teeth is called the alveolar process. The teeth are attached to the jaw through the periodontal ligament, which consists of collagen fibers connecting the cementum and the alveolar bone. These fibers contain many connective tissues that contain many blood vessels and nerve fibers. Such a rather complicated, but at the same time reliable fastening of human teeth, limits the mobility of teeth as much as possible, which largely protects the teeth during meals, directly in the process of chewing and at the moment of biting solid food. A particularly important part in this rather complex tooth system is the junction of the crown and root. At this point, the gums adhere tightly to the surface of the teeth, which largely protects the tooth tissues located inside the gums. This is to prevent food particles from getting in there, which can lead to infections and other more serious diseases of the jaw and mouth.
