Strontium (chemical symbol - Sr, from Lat. Strontium) is a chemical element of the 2nd group (according to the outdated classification - the second group of the main subgroup, IIA), the fifth period of the periodic system of chemical elements of D. I. Mendeleev, with atomic number 38.

The simple substance strontium is a soft, malleable and ductile alkaline earth metal of silver-white color.

It has a high chemical activity, reacts quickly with moisture and oxygen in the air, becoming covered with a yellow oxide film.
