Street Smart is a 1987 American crime drama thriller film directed by Jerry Schatzberg and written by David Freeman. The movie stars Christopher Reeve and Morgan Freeman and features supporting performances from Kathy Baker, Mimi Rogers, Jay Patterson, and Andre Gregory. Street Smart was shot in New York City and Montreal, Quebec.
Street Smart centers on a New York City reporter (played by Reeve) who, nervous about meeting his deadline for an article, decides to fabricate a story about a colorful pimp. When the story becomes a sensation, the district attorney thinks Reeve's story is really about a real-life pimp (played by Freeman), who is on trial for murder.
Street Smart was met with mostly positive reviews. Critics in particular praised Freeman's performance as the pimp Fast Black. Freeman received his first Oscar nomination for supporting actor at the 1988 Acadamy Awards for the role.
