So, we will talk about your personal computer, laptop. Many of you use computer technology on a daily basis, scammers are on the alert and are well aware of this.

All of you use your PC to shop online, view your bank account status, pay your bills with credit and debit cards, and you do it all through your browser, which at one time saves all history and passwords for convenience, here we will sharpen our attention, it is on saving history and saving passwords.

There is also such a type of files as Cookies.

Cookies are small text files on our computers that store information about our previous activities on websites. In addition to logging into accounts, they can remember:

-custom settings such as language, currency, or font size.

-products that we have viewed or added to the shopping cart;

-the text that we entered on the site earlier;

-IP address and location of the user;

-date and time of visiting the site;

-OS and browser version;

-clicks and transitions.

So, what do scammers use, their task is to get the login, password and those same Cookies from your browser, they use the stealer to work.

Stealer is malware designed to steal passwords stored on a system and send them to an attacker. How does a styler work?

This virus sneaks into the vaults of frequently used programs (mostly browsers) and steals everything from there: your saved cookies, logins and passwords. Then, the stealer sends the received data to the attacker by mail.

Sometimes this type of virus has an additional self-removal feature. A naive user will not even understand that his information has been stolen until the password no longer fits him, for example, mail, a social network, or worse, electronic wallets.

Why is this attack so dangerous? Often, anti-virus programs are powerless against the stealer, because the Trojan can be easily encrypted. Advice to you, do not download programs that are not known to you and do not follow unfamiliar links. Stiller basically comes to you after you have installed the program, mostly these programs are from unknown sites that you visited and saw the very application that you were looking for, do not save, it is better to download all applications for your computer from official sites

Cookies and security

Cookies themselves are not dangerous - they are plain text files. They cannot start processes on the computer and generally interact with the operating system. But they can be intercepted or stolen to track your previous online activities or log into your accounts without authorization. Usually, the information that is written in cookies is encrypted before being sent, and the cookies themselves are transmitted over the HTTPS protocol. This helps protect user data, but it's up to the site developer to implement encryption and send it securely. Visitors can only hope that everything is set up correctly. For its part, the user can only prevent the browser from using cookies or clear them from time to time.

Disabling cookies completely is not always a good idea. For example, all online stores operate using cookies. If you prevent the browser from using them, the server will not be able to remember what exactly you added to the basket. Clearing cookies manually is more practical, but each time you have to re-configure the appearance of the site and log in to your accounts.

Another reason to clear cookies periodically is the space on your computer. Cookies accumulate over time and can take up gigabytes of hard drive space. Therefore, once every few months it is useful to delete cookies, at least for those sites that you rarely visit. We will tell you how to do this in popular browsers.
