Scandium (chemical symbol - Sc, from Lat. Scandium) is a chemical element of the 3rd group (according to the outdated classification - the third group of the main subgroup, IIIA) of the fourth period of the periodic system of chemical elements of D. I. Mendeleev, with atomic number 21.
The simple substance scandium is a light transition rare-earth metal of silver color with a characteristic yellow tint. It exists in two crystal modifications: α-Sc with a hexagonal lattice of the magnesium type, β-Sc with a cubic volume-centered lattice, the transition temperature αββ is 1336 °C[2].
