Richard Strachey

Richard Strachey was born on July 24, 1817, in Somerset. He was a citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. Strachey's various occupations included being an official, politician, geologist, and explorer. He was a child of Sir Henry Strachey, 1st Baronet. He was educated at Addiscombe Military Seminary.

Richard Strachey was the father of several notable children, including writer and critic Lytton Strachey, novelist and translator Dorothy Bussy, and cryptographer Oliver Strachey. He also had two other children: psychoanalyst James Strachey and college head Pernel Strachey.

Strachey passed away on February 12, 1908, in Camden Town.
