Overview

Prismaflex System is a medical device that was launched by Baxter International, a technology company that researches, develops, and produces medical devices to be used in a clinical and professional setting. Prismaflex System is the predecessor to PrisMax System and is to be used with patients suffering from acute kidney injury (AKI).

Features and uses

The system is designed to be used for multiple therapies with a customizable platform. It differs from both intermittent hemodialysis (IHD) and slow low efficiency dialysis (SLED) due to its ability to deliver continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) for a 24-hour period for the following:

  • Metabolic control
  • Fluid removal
  • Acid/base control
  • Electrolyte balance

Prismaflex can also provide automatic adjustments and immediate visual feedback about the treatment. The system also has electronic medical records (ERM) connectivity capabilities that can be integrated into most ERM systems, which exist in hospitals. As with the PrisMax System, Prismaflex is available by prescription only and is for patients weighing more than 44 pounds.
