PivotX was an open-source blog software written in PHP utilizing flat files or a database for content storage. It used the Smarty web template system and the TinyMCE editor. One installation could handle different blogs, with its varying configurations, including themes. Users had different managing and editing privileges and levels. PivotX was released under the GNU GPL 2.0 license.
Other functions could be included through extensions managed via the admin interface. The open source software was primarily utilized for small websites like weblogs or online journals developed in PHP that used a MySQL database. Users could extend its capabilities to fit their needs. Some of the features included spam protection, SEO-friendly pages, and built-in commenting and moderation.
PivotX's development started in 2001 under the name Pivot, utilizing flat files. In 2012, PivotX developers announced that future versions of this CMS would go two ways: full-fledged "Pivot 4," developed on Symfony2 framework, and lightweight "Bolt" CMS, developed on Silex framework. PivotX's version 2.3.8 was launched in January 2014. In 2017, active development ceased.
