Peyo, also known as Pierre Culliford, was a Belgian comics artist, screenwriter, and cartoonist. He was born on June 25, 1928, in Schaerbeek, Belgium, and was educated at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts. Peyo's nationality was Belgian.
The artist was the creator and author of The Smurfs, Johan and Peewit, and Benny Breakiron. He was best known for creating The Smurfs.
Peyo died in the City of Brussels on December 24, 1992.
