Pyotr was born in 1993 in a village in Nazarovsky District of Krasnoyarsk Krai to a Russian-Chinese family. He got his last name Yang from his grandfather, who was Chinese by ethnicity[6]. In the beginning of the 2000s the family moved to the polar city of Dudinka.
In the sixth grade he began training taekwondo and indoor soccer. At the age of 12 he began boxing under the guidance of Nikolay Nikolayevich Surzhikov.
At the age of 14 he earned his living unloading barges on the Yenisei. While working he met Konstantin Mankov, who suggested him to Peter's future coach, Yuri Vladimirovich Demchenko.
At the age of 15 after the 9th class of school Peter moved from Krasnoyarsk region to Omsk, where he continued training under the guidance of Yury Demchenko, master of sports in boxing.
He took interest in MMA in the club "Alexander Nevsky" when he watched professional fighters training.
In the early 2010s he worked as a security guard in a nightclub on the outskirts of Omsk.
